Structure of the Edexcel Level 4 NVQ in Supply Chain Management (Purchasing & Procurement)

To achieve the whole qualification at Level 4, a candidate must achieve all of the mandatory units and five of the optional units listed below : (Total : 10 Units)

Mandatory units for the Edexcel Level 4 NVQ in Supply Chain Management Candidates must achieve all of the mandatory units listed below.

Unit:

  • M1 Develop operational relationships within the supply chain
  • M2 Evaluate information on the supply chain
  • M3 Propose improvements to the supply chain
  • M4 Introduce improvements to the supply chain
  • B6 Provide leadership in your area of responsibility

General Option units for the Edexcel Level 4 NVQ in Supply Chain Management Candidates must achieve five option units listed below.

CIPS have issued a specific requirement if candidates require CIPS recognition.(CIPS Statement)

  • D3 Recruit, select and keep colleagues (MSC)
  • E2 Manage finance for your area of responsibility (MSC)
  • F9 Build your organisation's understanding of its market and customers (MSC)
  • M5 Plan projects to develop the supply chain
  • M6 Manage projects to develop the supply chain
  • M7 Negotiate for supplies
  • M8 Contract with other organisations
  • M9 Review the outcomes of contracts
  • M10 Evaluate information on the procurement of supplies in the supply chain
  • M11 Select suppliers for the supply chain
  • M12 Produce specifications for supplies
  • M13 Evaluate the capability of suppliers to meet supply specifications
  • M14 Schedule and approve the placing of orders
  • M15 Evaluate the performance of suppliers
  • M16 Schedule the flow of supplies in the supply chain
  • M17 Specify the requirements for the storage of supplies
  • M18 Select locations and facilities for storing supplies
  • M19: Evaluate information on the storage of supplies
  • M20: Specify the requirements for the distribution of supplies
  • M21: Select distribution methods for supplies
  • M22: Schedule the distribution of supplies
  • M23: Select methods to receive returned supplies
  • M24: Select transportation methods for supplies
  • M25: Schedule the transportation of supplies
  • M26: Select methods for exporting supplies
  • M27: Select methods for importing supplies
  • This is an extract from the statement issued to providers by CIPS in June 2006.

•The Level 4 NVQ in Supply Chain Management will provide a route to MCIPS with certain conditions:

•Candidates must take 5 Mandatory Units

•Candidates must take 3 units from M5 — M19 (identified as those most relevant to CIPS).

•Candidates must take 2 other units from M5 — M27

•Candidates must have at least three years experience in a position of responsibility in purchasing and supply management, in accordance with the QCA level descriptor for Level 6. (Graduate Diploma)
